Pop Art

Pop Art uses images and icons that are popular in the modern world. This includes famous celebrities like movie stars and rock stars, commercial items like soup cans and soft drinks, comic books, and any other items that are popular in the commercial world. There are a number of ways that artists use these items to create art such as repeating the item over and over again, changing the colour or texture of the item, and putting different items together to make a picture. In England in the mid 1950’s they called it Propaganda Art instead of Pop Art. This style of art came to the United States in the mid-1960s. Pop Art in the United States was an expression of the optimistic spirit of the 1960's.

One of the most notable pop artists was the artist Andy Warhol (1928-1987). One of Andy Warhol's most famous paintings was that of a Campbell's soup can. Warhol is noted for creating artistic portraits of Marilyn Monroe Lichtenstein was one of the first artists to develop the style pop art. He drew comic like paintings. One of the great pictures he drew was titled "Whaam." It was painted in 1963.
You can tell Lichtenstein's paintings because he made dots in the background, and he has thought bubbles in most of his paintings. In 1962 the world's first public exhibit of pop art was shown at the Pasadena Art Museum. The works included artists Jim Dine, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Dowd, Phillip Hefferton, Joe Goode, Edward Ruscha, and Wayne Thiebaud.

Mona Lisa
The Mona Lisa is quite possibly the most well-known piece of painted artwork in the entire world. It was painted by the Leonardo Da Vinci, the famous Italian artist, between 1504 and 1519, and is a half body commission for a woman named Lisa Gherardini. Her husband, Francesco Del Giocondo requested the work by Da Vinci just after the turn of the century. It is perhaps the most studied piece of artwork ever known. The subject’s facial expression has brought about a source of debate for centuries, as her face remains largely enigmatic in the portrait. Originally commissioned in Italy, it is now at home in the French Republic, and hangs on display in the Louvre in Paris. Leonardo Da Vinci was born in a small village called Vinci in the country of Italy. He was raised by his grandparents and even as a boy showed signs of genius. He could work hard mathematics problems and was a very good artist. The Mona Lisa is also famous for a variety of reasons. One of the reasons, of course, for the popularity of the painting is the artist himself. Leonardo da Vinci is perhaps the most recognized artist in the world. Not only was Da Vinci an artist, but he was also a scientist, inventor, and a doctor. His study of the human form came from the study of actual human cadavers. Leonardo created this painting over many years, beginning in 1503. When he finished it is debated by historians. During this time, he also was painting many other things, building sculptures, and making new inventions.

Pop art is a form of art that emerged in Britain in the mid-1950s  and then in the United States in the late 1950s  . As it used images from modern culture such as news and advertising, pop art presented a challenge to traditions of fine art. It is usually created by making a picture of something (e.g. a famous person or an advertisement) and using bright colours and different words to make it interesting.

Andy Warhol by Jack Mitchell.jpgPop art’s concept is to look at the attitudes that led to the art rather than look at the art itself. It also is used in many modern everyday things such as comic books. Pop art is used as a way of expressing what you are feeling and what your attitude is by putting it in a painting or other form of art. But pop art is different because it is a more modern and interesting way of expressing yourself than doing normal art.

Andy Warhol was a leading figure in pop art who, as an artist, explored the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture and advertisement. His art included many forms of media, including hand drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, silk screening, sculpture, film, and music. Andy Warhol’s most famous piece of art was when he painted a picture of Campbell’s soup. This was said to be

The Mona Lisa

The Mona Lisa (La Gioconda in Italian) is a portrait of a woman named Lisa del Giocondo, by the Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci. The painting is 77cm x 53cm and it is in portrait form. It is an oil painting painted on poplar wood panels. It was said to be painted in Florence between 1503 and 1506. The Mona Lisa has been described as the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most sung about and the most parodied work of art in the world.

The painting has been restored 5 times. In 1809 it got wash and revarnished. In 1906 watercolour was used to retouch cracks in the paint and the varnish around the edge. In 1913 It was recovered after it was stolen. The layer of varnish in the background was touched up in 1952. The most recent was in 1956 when vandals damaged it slightly but it was soon touched up.

The painting is kept in the Musée du Louvre in Paris where it has been since 1797 and it is there permanently. It is also shielded by bulletproof glass to keep anything from destroying it. This is because the painting is priceless and it has remained in the same condition as when it was painted and everyone would like to keep it that way.

On the 21st of August 1911 the Mona Lisa was stolen. The painting was believed to be lost forever but two years later the painting was found and the thief was caught. An employee at the Louvre named Vincenzo Peruggia had entered the museum during day hours and stolen it by hiding in a broom closet and walking out with it hidden under his coat after the museum had closed. In 1956 the painting was damaged after a vandal threw acid at it. Later that year a man damaged the painting on the left elbow by throwing a rock at it.

Through time there have been a lot of interests in The Mona Lisa’s smile. It has been found that at one moment she is smiling and radiant and the next she is stern and serious. This happens because our eyes are sending mixed signals to our brains about her smile. How you see her smile depends on what you are picturing her thinking about. It also depends on what mood you picture her being in.

POP ART AND MONA LISA

POP ART

Pop Art is the movement in art when artists began to create art with the subject of things that are the iconic in nature such as famous people, advertising, and movies. Pop art is commonly known as being fun, colourful and playful. As much as it can be associated with a child-like playfulness and simplicity, it has quite a bit of art theory to it. The British and the American people were responsible for setting off this type of art in the 1950's and 60's.

One of the most notable pop artists was the artist Andy Warhol (1928-1987). One of Andy Warhol's most famous paintings was that of a Campbell's soup can. Another commonly used person was Marilyn Monroe. Warhol is noted for creating artistic portraits of Marilyn Monroe. Warhol is noted to have mingled with many different subculture circles and must have had some influence on how and why he created the art that was famous for.

Another notable pop artist was Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997). Lichtenstein was drawn to pop art in the 60's. He created art using comic strips as the subject. He also was known for creating pop art style reproductions of master painters like Monet.  In 1962 the world's first public exhibit of pop art was shown at the Pasadena Art Museum. The works included artists Jim Dine, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Dowd, Phillip Hefferton and Joe Goode.

Mona Lisa

Mona Lisa was painted by Leonardo da Vinci, it is perhaps the most famous painting in the world, going so far as to be iconic of painting, art, and even visual images in general. No other work of art is so romanticized, celebrated, or reproduced.

The work, which was accomplished between 1503 and 1506, measures 77 x 53 cm and is an oil painting on wood. It was brought to France by Leonardo when King Francois I invited the great painter to work at the Clos Luc near the king's chateau in Amboise. As a result, the Mona Lisa today hangs in the Louvre in Paris, and is the museum's star attraction.

The identity of the lady in the painting is not known for certain, except that she was a wealthy Florentine. The most probable suspect is Madonna Lisa del Giocondo, although there are other suspects.

Although it is definitely difficult to view the painting critically and ignore all the mythology behind it, it does display a technical mastery that more or less unquestionably seats it amongst Leonardo's masterworks although some count The Last Supper as a better painting.

The compelling nature of the image has been the subject of reams of discussion. In general, it can be stated that the vividness and ambiguity of the facial expression is due to Leonardo's way of painting he used by blurring the most expressive portions of the face (the corners of the eyes and mouth) to give the picture greater mystery. Indeed, the eyes appear to follow the viewer around the room, and the enigmatic smile is the picture's most famous feature (giving us the expression, "a Mona Lisa smile").

The painting was also one of the first portraits to be painted landscape.  One interesting feature of the landscape is that it is uneven. The landscape to the left of the figure is considerably lower than that to the right of her. This has led some critics to believe that it was added later.

The painting has been restored numerous times: unfortunately, some people say several details have been lost in the process, including Lisa's eyebrows and also people suspect a pearl necklace she was wearing as well.

On August 22, 1911, Louvre employee Vincenzo Peruggia, who at first believed the painting belonged to Italy and shouldn't be kept in France, stole the painting by simply walking out the door with it hidden under his coat. However, he later got caught due to the fact he tried to sell the Mona Lisa to a Florence art dealer. It was returned to the Louvre in 1913.The Guinness Book of Records counts the painting as the most valuable object ever insured.

Pop Art

Pop Art

Pop art is an art movement that began in the 1950’s in Britain. When it was first used it was used to show that America culture was powerful, now it as used to show irony and parody. Pop art includes images from popular culture like celebrities, advertisements, news and brands. It is aimed to use popular culture rather than elite culture. The concept of pop art is less about the art itself, but more about the attitudes expressed in it. The attitudes that are often used in pop art are difficult to understand. A lot of pop art is used for advertising, especially on product labeling and logos. Pop art is considered to be an art movement that is a type of postmodern art.

Mona Lisa

The Mona Lisa is a half portrait of an Italian woman, painted by Leonardo da Vinci. The painting is thought to be a portrait of Lisa Gherardini. The name Mona Lisa was given to the painting by Giorgio Vasari when he wrote that the painting was of Mona (meaning Madam) Lisa. It is an oil painting on a poplar panel and is believed to be painted from 1503 to 1506. It is now property of the French Republic and is on display at Musee du Louvre in Paris since 1797. On the 21st of August 1911 the Mona Lisa was stolen from the museum. 2 years later Vincenzo Peruggia was arrested for stealing the painting. He stole it because he believed the painting should have been returned to Italy and been put on display in an Italian museum. In 1956 the lower half of the painting had been badly damaged when a vandal threw acid at it and later that year someone threw a rock at it resulting in the loss of a speck on the left elbow, which was later painted over. Leonardo da Vinci used a pyramid design to place the women in the space of the painting.

Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15th, 1452 in Italy and died on May 2nd, 1915 in France. He was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and writer. He is more importantly known for his artwork and his scientific discoveries. He designed a helicopter, a tank, concentrated solar power, a calculator and the double hull. Some of his famous artworks are; Mona Lisa, The last Supper, The Vitruvian Man and Lady With an Ermine.

Pop art

Pop art is fun art made from simple things. It’s of things like product icons, product labels, ads, famous people, and country icons. It uses things that are popular and modern like celebrities, soft drinks, lollies, comic books etc. Pop art is a picture of something simple e.g. a can of soup and you don’t have to think more into what the picture is or means.

There are different ways to do pop art. You can repeat the item over and over, change the colours or textures, or put different items together to make a picture. It’s normally very bright and colourful.

Pop art started in the 1950’s and was really popular in the 1960’s. It started in the UK but became popular in New York. Where artists like Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns made it their specialty.  People who did pop art wanted to make art part of everyday lives.

Mona Lisa

The Mona Lisa was painted by Leonardo da Vinci. He started painting the Mona Lisa in 1503 and it took him about four years to do. It’s painted in oil paints and is 77 cm long and 53 cm wide. It is the best known piece of art in the world. It’s also the most visited and most written about art in the world. The painting hangs in the louvre museum in Paris and has since 1797.  One of the things that make it so famous is that an employee stole the painting from the louvre museum in 1911.

The original name of the painting was Monna Lisa shortened from Madonna which means my lady. But there was a spelling mistake where they left out one n to make it Mona Lisa and that stuck.  There are three different versions painted underneath the current one.

Leonardo da Vinci was born on the 15th of April in 1452. He was born in Italy.  He was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist and a writer. When he was 14 he was apprenticing an artist called Verrocchio. By the time he was 20 he had had his own workshop for a while and had qualified as a master artist.

POP ART/MONA LISA

POP ART

POP ART is an art movement that emerged in the mid 1950s in Britain. But became very popular in the 1960s. When it became a true art movement in New York City with artists like Andy Warhol and Jasper Johns. Pop Art uses images and icons that are popular in the modern worldPop Art is art made from commercial items and cultural icons such as product labels, advertisements, and movie stars. In a way, Pop Art was a reaction to the seriousness of abstract expressionist art. There are a number of ways that artists use these items to create art such as repeating the item over and over again, changing the color or texture of the item, and putting different items together to make a picture. There were lots of artists who adapted these ideas such as  Roy Lichtenstein. Who was one of the first artists to develop the style POP ART. He drew comic-like paintings. Andy Warhol was also one of the most famous pop artists. He created pictures and then repeated the object, or person.

Mona Lisa

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci was an italian Renaissance polymath: painter, sculptor, architect  musician, mathamatition, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist , cartographer, botanist and writer. During da Vinci's 67 year life he painted the Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa is a portrait of a woman. Which has been acclaimed as "the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the most sung about, the most parodied work of art in the world." The painting is a portrait of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of Francesco del Giocondo. It is oil in a poplar panel. It's believed to have been painted between 1503 and 1506, although Leonardo may have continued working on the Mona Lisa as late as 1517. It was acquired by King Francis 1 of France and is now the property of the French Republic. It is on permanent display at the Musee du Louvre in Paris since 1797. The Mona Lisa's expression is open to interpretation. Not until 2005 was the identity of Mona Lisa's subject fully understood. Though years of speculation have suggested the true identity of the paintings subject.
The painting is now behind bullet proof glass because the Mona Lisa disappeared from the Louvre in France in 1911. Pablo Picasso was on the original list of suspects questioned and jailed for the theft. But he was later exonerated. For two years, the masterpiece was thought to be forever lost. However in 1913, Italian patriot Vincenzo Perugia was arrested for the crime of stealing the famous painting, and the original artwork returned to its home in the Louvre. The Mona Lisa has survived for six centuries without ever having been restored. A trait very unusual when considering the time period of the piece
